GHK-Cu (Copper Peptides)
What it is: A naturally occurring copper-binding tripeptide (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine paired with copper). It's found naturally in the body, and its levels are understood to decline as we age — which is part of why it's become such a talked-about skincare active.
What it's studied for: GHK-Cu is one of the most researched peptides in skincare. Studies associate it with supporting the skin's natural collagen and elastin, helping skin look firmer and smoother, softening the appearance of fine lines, and promoting a more even, refreshed-looking complexion. It's also studied for its role in the skin's barrier and its comfortable, soothing feel after everyday irritation.

PDRN (Polydeoxyribonucleotide)
What it is: Short fragments of DNA, traditionally sourced from salmon (plant-derived "vegan PDRN" versions also exist). It's one of the most hyped K-beauty actives of the moment. In research, it's understood to work in part by activating adenosine A2A receptors in the skin.
What it's studied for: PDRN has been studied in connection with collagen production, skin elasticity, hydration and that dewy "glass-skin" look, and skin recovery. Much of the strongest evidence comes from professional in-clinic use, with topical skincare formats being newer and still emerging. Concentration matters here — PDRN is typically measured in parts per million (PPM).
Good to know: Salmon-derived PDRN is not vegan and may be worth noting if you have a fish or marine allergy.

Bakuchiol
What it is: A plant-derived compound from the babchi plant (Psoralea corylifolia), widely described as a gentler, plant-based alternative to retinol.
What it's studied for: Bakuchiol is studied for smoothing the look of fine lines and improving the appearance of tone and texture — with noticeably less irritation than retinol for many people. It also has antioxidant properties. Unlike retinol, it isn't associated with increased sun sensitivity, which makes it a friendly option for daytime routines.

Methylene Blue
What it is: A synthetic compound with a long history — originally a dye and one of the oldest man-made medicines — that has more recently drawn attention as a potent skincare antioxidant.
What it's studied for: In laboratory and 3D human-skin-model research (notably a 2017 University of Maryland study published in Scientific Reports), methylene blue acted as a strong, unusually stable antioxidant. In those skin models it was associated with greater thickness and water retention, increased expression of collagen- and elastin-related genes, and minimal irritation. It's a mitochondria-targeting antioxidant, which is a different mechanism from more familiar antioxidants like vitamin C. Topical cosmetic use is still an emerging area.
Good to know: Methylene blue is a strong blue pigment and can stain skin and fabrics at higher concentrations. It is also not an FDA-approved color additive for cosmetics in the U.S., so it sits in an evolving regulatory space.

Grass-Fed Beef Tallow
What it is: Rendered beef fat, rich in fatty acids (such as oleic, stearic, and palmitic acid) and fat-soluble vitamins. Its lipid profile is often compared to the skin's own natural oils, which is part of its appeal in traditional-style skincare.
What it's studied/used for: Tallow is a rich, occlusive moisturizer — it helps skin hold onto moisture and supports a soft, nourished, comforted feel. It has a long history of use in traditional skincare.
Good to know: Because it's rich and occlusive, it can feel heavy, and how well it suits very oily or acne-prone skin varies from person to person.

Raw Honey
What it is: A natural humectant produced by bees, containing sugars, trace enzymes, and antioxidant compounds.
What it's studied/used for: Honey helps draw in and hold moisture, feels soothing and comforting on the skin, and contributes mild antioxidant properties. It's a classic ingredient in nourishing, barrier-supporting formulas.
